6th out of 93 so far

ot bad - we've moved up four spaces in the last two days, but only the top 2 receive the money.  So we need to keep voting.  http://gulf.refresheverything.com/roundislandlighthouse
Also, don't forget you can find more information at http://www.roundislandlighthouse.org/.  You can join the Preservation Society and become a sponsor of the restoration.  Right now you can buy a brick to be engraved along the walkway.  More sponsorship opportunities are coming soon.

Become a fan on Round Island Lighthouse's Facebook page today, too.

MS Press - Pepsi Refresh

Check out the story in today's Mississippi Press - Round Island Lighthouse vying for $250,000 from Pepsi for Gulf restoration.  The Lighthouse is currently in 7th place out of 93 projects, so it's in the running but it needs a lot more voters.  You can vote for it once every day in August.  The website requires you to set up a log-in, but it's very easy and you won't receive a bunch of junk mail unless you check the box approving it.

Vote for the Lighthouse!

The Round Island Lighthouse in Pascagoula, MS, has been selected as a potential Pepsi Refresh – Do Good for the Gulf grant recipient. People can vote online at http://gulf.refresheverything.com/roundislandlighthouse throughout the month of August. Only two grants of this amount will be awarded, so vote early and often. You can vote each day. It requires you to set up a log-in, but it’s quick and easy. The Round Island Lighthouse Project is listed as a $250,000 Arts and Culture project.

Lighthouse relocation in MS Press

Today's Mississippi Press has a great story about the relocation of the lighthouse - http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-living/2010/07/restoring_the_light_round_island_lighthouse_moved_to_mainland.html

The Lighthouse has moved!

After a few months of work out on Round Island, the lighthouse base has now come ashore.  Here are a few pictures.  More pictures and video to come soon.  Right now they can be found on the City of Pascagoula's Facebook page.

Oil Spill Update

To date the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has not reached Round Island or the lighthouse.  The City has issued a Notice to Proceed to the company that has been contracted to relocate the base of the lighthouse from Round Island to the mainland.  However, both the City and the contractor are waiting to see the ultimate outcome of the oil spill before beginning the relocation process, as first phase of the relocation will involve a few weeks of work on the island to dig out the lighthouse and move it to the barge.

More updates will follow as the process moves forward.

Be sure to check out http://www.roundislandlighthouse.org/ for information on memberships and sponsorships to help support this restoration project.
